Stand up to Cancer: more than care
“During cancer treatment, many changes occur not only physically but also in how people perceive themselves. Skin problems or the loss of familiarity with your own reflection can be very heavy to bear. That is why we are glad to have found a partner in Cent Pur Cent who supports the idea that gentleness and care are also important. Their products are safe and gentle to use. For patients, that feels like a reassurance, like a soft embrace at a time when their body often feels so vulnerable. It helps them to feel like themselves again while attending one of the workshops,” says Stephanie De Coene, head of regional operations, cancer line & cancer fund at Kom op tegen Kanker.
Caroline Rigo: “This is our mission”
For founder Caroline Rigo, this partnership is a dream come true.
“We have always said that we do not see make-up merely as a product, but as a means to restore self-confidence. People with sensitive skin, people going through treatment… they deserve that extra layer of strength. Our products are made to be gentle, yet at the same time to give a healthy glow. If we can bring even one smile to the mirror, then this work is more than successful.”
A beacon of hope according to the cancer coaches
Doctors and cancer coaches also notice the difference. Cancer coach Caroline Knapen from UZ Trudo in Sint-Truiden says:
“In our hospital, we regularly hold make-up workshops for cancer patients. These sessions are always very successful and show how important it is to pay attention to more than just the medical treatment.
During the workshop, “time for yourself” is central. Patients have the chance to receive tips and guidance on skin and make-up care, allowing them to see themselves apart from their illness for a while. It is not only about looking better, but especially about feeling better. It provides a moment of relaxation, self-care, and self-confidence.
It is truly wonderful to see the positive effect this has: patients shine, feel stronger, and experience that they are more than their treatment or diagnosis. That self-confidence also contributes to recovery and overall well-being.
For us as the treating team, it is nice to be able to organise this. It requires little effort, but the added value for the patient is great. Because the sessions take place within the familiar setting of our hospital, patients feel comfortable participating.
We continue to repeat these workshops with great enthusiasm, because time and again we see how valuable this is for our patients.”
